Third Sunday Lecture: Secrets from the Gould Family Archives

The extensive Lyndhurst archives were recently donated to the Westchester Historical Society which is in process of archiving, digitizing and making these archives available to the public. Cathryn Anders will provide the first glimpse from these newly cataloged archives into the Gould family.  Gould was the model of the modern Wall Street “Master of the Universe.”  His eldest daughter Helen became a noted philanthropist and activist and was a model for women like Eleanor Roosevelt.  His youngest daughter Anna, in true Downton Abbey style, went to Europe and enriched the families of two French aristocrats with her fortune.  This slide presentation will highlight everything from Jay Gould’s effort to preserve the Mount Vernon view shed, pictures of Helen Gould visiting the Sphinx with her new husband and Anna’s numerous receipts for couture dresses.
This program is co-sponsored by the Westchester County Historical Society. Funding for this program provided by ArtsWestchester.
