WJCS Presents Conference on Vicarious Trauma: The Impact on Those Working with Survivors

21st Annual Edythe Kurz Educational Institute Conference discusses vicarious trauma and its impact on those working with survivors in mental health and community settings. Keynote speaker will be Laurie Anne Pearlman, PhD, widely published author on the theory and treatment of vicarious trauma. In addition the conference will feature several panelists, including Andrew Levin, MD, WJCS’ Medical Director; Mark Giuliano, LMSW, program director, community support, Westchester County Department of Community Mental Health, first responders and community agencies.


WHO: Mental health professionals, social workers, first responders, healthcare workers


WHY: Traumatic situations affect both victims and those trying to help them. It is important for helpers to understand the impact on them, to know what can be done about it and to locate resources.

The Educational Institute offers courses, clinical conferences, the annual Edythe Kurz Conference and the Dr. Samuel Kahn Memorial Lecture. The Institute also helps to coordinate internships for prospective social workers, psychologists and forensic mental health professionals, research, professional seminars and workshops, and community education.
