Women in Jazz

This lecture by Marshall Tilden will cover women who were an
integral part of jazz music as vocalists before and during the big band
era.  Vocalist such as Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Carmen McRae
and Sarah Vaughan in their early careers separated themselves from the big
bands and led successful careers on their own.  Later successes of
women jazz musicians started with the piano and led into other instruments
which will be covered.    Live and recorded music will enhance this
lecture.  This program is celebrating March’s Women’s History Month.  Marshall
Tilden
is a jazz
musician and taught at Westchester Community College, Scarsdale Adult Education
and Yonkers Public Library.  He gives presentations
and performs
throughout Westchester.
