Friends Of Music Concerts Completes Its 60th Season With Three Musically Varied Concerts for Spring 2014

Continuing the celebration of its 60th season, Friends of Music will present an outstanding roster of chamber groups and soloists in the beautiful, acoustically-excellent Kusel Auditorium at Sleepy Hollow High School starting on April 12.

Violinist Paul Huang, the 22-year-old recipient of Friends of Music's fourth Performance Award made to a winner of Young Concert Artists' International Auditions, will perform Saturday, April 12, 2014, with piano collaborator Jessica Osborne. Huang made his recital debuts last season at Merkin Concert Hall in New York and the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. He and Osborne will play works by Vivaldi, Respighi, Stravinsky, Glazunov, Shostakovich, and Szymanowski. http://www.paulhuangviolin.com/

On Saturday, April 26, 2014, a Schubertiade will bring to the audience an evening-long celebration of the varied works of the beloved composer Franz Schubert. Included will be his immortal Trout Piano Quintet, works for solo piano and violin and piano, and songs. Participating artists will be the Amphion String Quartet, pianists Michael Brown and Daria Rabotkina, and baritone Mischa Bonvier.

The St. Lawrence String Quartet, one of the most renowned chamber groups of its generation and Canada's premier string quartet, will close this 60th season on Saturday, May 10, 2014, with a program of Haydn, Bartok and Beethoven. The concert will mark the Westchester debut of the group's new second violinist, Mark Fewer, whose eclectic resume includes work as a jazz violinist and session player in Montreal. Ensemble-in-residence at Stanford University, SLSQ continues to build its reputation for imaginative and spontaneous music-making. www.slsq.com

Tickets for individual concerts are $30 for adults and $15 for students. Sleepy Hollow High School is located at 210 North Broadway (Route 9), in Sleepy Hollow. Parking is free.
