Pianist Jeremy Denk Returns to Open Friends of Music's 60th Season

Jeremy Denk, described by the New York Times as "one of the most essential American pianists of the current generatio n," will open the Friends of Music's 60th season performing on Saturday, October 5th, at 8 pm in Sleepy Hollow High School auditorium.

In 2011, a wildly-appreciative Friends of Music audience was treated to Denk's performance of J.S. Bach's Goldberg Variations, plus Charles Ives' Piano Sonata No. 1, his recording of which was mentioned by the Times as "justly acclaimed."

In March, 2013, Denk's official debut at Carnegie Hall was received with thunderous applause. He was lauded by the Times as "the terrific and, clearly, courageous American pianist," for playing Bach's Goldberg Variations on a program that contained other demanding pieces.

In addition to performing and teaching, D enk is an accomplished writer. He maintains a blog, "Think Denk," which can be found at www.jeremydenk.net and has written numerous liner and program notes.

The 43-year-old North Carolina native made his New York recital debut in 1997 at Alice Tully Hall as winner of the William Petschek Piano Debut Recital Award from Juilliard. The next year he received the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant and won the Young Concert Artists International Auditions. Since then he has appeared as soloist with many orchestras, including the Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, London, New World, St. Louis, and San Francisco Symphonies, as well as the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Orchestra of St. Luke's.
