Mika Brzezinski, Co-Host of MSNBC'S "Morning Joe," to Speak At WEDC Spring Luncheon and Marketplace

Women. Worth. Wealth ... If you are interested in any or all of these topics then don't miss hearing Mika Brzezinski, co-host of MSNBC's "Morning Joe," speak about how women can achieve their deserved recognition and financial worth at the Annual Spring Luncheon and Marketplace to benefit the Women's Enterprise Development Center (WEDC) on Thursday, June 14, from 11 am to 2 pm, at the Tappan Hill Mansion in Tarrytown, NY.

Brzezinski, a former CBS-TV news correspondent and daughter of foreign policy expert Zbigniew Brzezinkski, examines the role of women in the workplace in her book Knowing Your Value: Women, Money, and Getting What You're Worth, which achieved the Number One ranking for business books on The New York Times best seller list in the spring of 2011. Knowing Your Value will be given out as a gift to all luncheon attendees in celebration of WEDC's15th anniversary. The event emcee will be Tara Rosenblum, anchor for News 12 Westchester and the Hudson Valley Weekend Edition. Rosenblum has earned more than three-dozen major industry awards, including three Emmy awards and eighteen Emmy nominations.

"It is especially fitting that Mika will be discussing her book on helping women achieve the compensation they deserve as our mission at WEDC is to empower women - and men - to create and grow successful businesses," said Anne Janiak, the organization's executive director. "We look forward to hearing her share her insights.” Janiak said that WEDC’s goal is to build a vibrant community of women entrepreneurs by providing high-quality, low-cost training programs and support services to both start-up and established business owners in Westchester County and the Lower Hudson Valley.

WEDC also will announce the winners of ten equity awards (ranging from $4,000 to $5,000) from the Lanza Enterprise Award Program (LEAP), given to help women entrepreneurs boost their businesses to the next level.

Also that afternoon, WEDC has organized a marketplace of goods and services offered by graduates of WEDC's 15-week entrepreneurial training program. The marketplace will include items for sale such as: Bombinizz®, a versatile, carry-all bag with fun, trendy fabrics, created by Pelham resident Maria Rosell; window treatments by Juanita Strassfield, owner of Archetype Interiors in Croton-on-Hudson; Mirame swimsuits by Yorktown Heights designer Melina Huff; sweets from Diana Scott-Sho of the Luscious Little Dessert Company, based out of Yonkers; and Sudasana body care products by Esther Dederichs of Pomona, NY.
