Last Chance: Challenge Camp, Parking Permits, Most Interesting Town

1. The deadline to register for the Challenge Summer Institute at Washington Irving is June 1. This program is so cool it makes me want to go to camp, but alas, it's for kids in grades 2 through middle school.

Largely for gifted students but open to all, there are 25 different courses offered over a two week period in topics like archaeology, robotics, architecture, and much more to get your kid super-excited about learning. Classes meet three periods a day, for 90 minutes each. Students can design their own learning objectives; summaries are sent home like report cards, and teacher Maureen Massaro says the program prides itself on tons of "feedback and invidual attention." 

Students can take just the morning program (two classes/day) for two weeks for $500 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.; or all three period for $625 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.. 2. Here's a less fun one: Parking permits expire May 31. You can print out an application form online here or pick one up at the train or police stations.
