Blockbuster Block Parties and the Best Costume Goes To...

Friday night and Saturday night were big hits on Beekman Avenue in Sleepy Hollow with perfect weather and amazing energy.

In Sleepy Hollow: Inflatables for kids, the Sleepy Hollow Performance Arts troupes dancing in their bones, Westchester Circus Arts aerialists dangling from a lofty red crane, hot cider, back to back bands, and of course the scary and wonderful haunted hayride.

In Tarrytown: Saturday night was Tarrytown's big time with a parade spanning from Patriot's Park to Main Street and sidestreets where it continued with hours of music, food and fun.

One of the organizers JoAnne Murray described the parade as a big success. The event "drew thousands of spectators to watch one of the biggest parades in a long time," she said. "The Block Party was expanded closing Main Street from Kaldenberg to Windle Park. There were 16 floats and groups, four bands, hundreds of costumed people marching lead by the Tarrytown Fire Department distributing candy to the children, and, of course, the Headless Horseman!"

The winners were:

  • Best Costume – Boy in a Box;
  • Best Group – Mad Scientists Create Evil Minions;
  • Best Float – Duck Dynasty;
  • Best volunteer Band – St Christopher’s;
  • Best Pub – Set Back Inn;
  • and Best Overall – The Tarrytown Ambulance Corp.
  • Finding Waldo was Donna Puff.
