Historic Hudson Valley presents Dickens's 'Christmas Carol' at the Old Dutch Church and A Holiday Open House at Philipsburg Manor
A brand new event at Philipsburg Manor and dramatic performances of a classic Charles Dickens tale are hallmarks of the holiday season in the Hudson Valley.Dickens's 'Christmas Carol
Following up on sold-out performances of Irving’s ‘Legend’ in October, master storyteller Jonathan Kruk will once again welcome visitors into the historic, candlelit interior of the circa-1685 Old Dutch Church in Sleepy Hollow, this time for a lively re-telling of ‘A Christmas Carol,’ complete with musical accompaniment. Kruk brings to life Charles Dickens’s classic story of Ebenezer Scrooge and the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future.
Performances are on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 29-30, plus Saturdays Dec. 7, 14, and 21, and Sunday, Dec. 22, at 3:30, 4:45, and 6pm each night.
Parking for Dickens’s ‘Christmas Carol’ is at Philipsburg Manor, 381 North Broadway, Sleepy Hollow, across the street from the Old Dutch Church. Seating in the church is very limited and tickets may be purchased in advance at hudsonvalley.org.
A Holiday Open House
New this year, A Holiday Open House provides a cozy, storybook setting to toast the season. It takes place from 4-8pm on Dec. 7, 14, and 21 at Philipsburg Manor. This 18th-century historic site, owned and operated by Historic Hudson Valley, will be lit by candle lanterns and bonfires. Visitors can take part in hands-on, winter-themed crafts, listen to live fiddle music, and toast the evening with complimentary sweets and hot beverages, all while browsing for holiday gifts at the Philipsburg Manor Museum Shop. The shop is packed with special Hudson Valley merchandise that can’t be found at traditional retailers.
Tickets for the events
Tickets for Dickens’s ‘Christmas Carol’ on Nov. 29-30 and Dec. 22 are $16 for adults and $12 for children under 18. Tickets on Dec. 7, 14, and 21 are premium tickets that include admission to A Holiday Open House and are $20 for adults and $16 for children under 18. Members of Historic Hudson Valley receive a $5 discount per ticket.
Tickets for A Holiday Open House that do not include admission to Dickens’s ‘Christmas Carol’ are $12 for adults, $8 for children 3-17, and free for children under 3 and Historic Hudson Valley members.
