Westchester/NYC Tops Forbes' List of Most Overpriced Places

Hawaii has the sunshine.

But in other ways—the high cost of housing, hefty price tags for food, gas, doctors and other expenses—Hawaii and the New York City metro area are the same, according to a new survey by Forbes magazine that would be hilarious if it weren't so depressing.

"America's Most Overpriced Cities 2014" calls out the metropolitan area— specifically NYC, White Plains and Wayne, NJ.

Its authors used housing affordability statistics from the National Association of Home Builders and Wells Fargo and cost-of-living stats from Sterling's Best Places.

California had the most overpriced cities. "...neither Massachusetts nor New York State come close to placing as many cities on our list as California, which may come down to the nonquantifiable factors that draw people to California (and for that matter, Hawaii) in the first place," Forbes staffers wrote.
