We’re at the end of May already and can’t believe how this year is moving so quickly. Not only is the month of May the opening of summer but May also brings Skin Cancer Awareness Month. Once the weather starts to get warm we all want to shake off that winter paleness and get out in the sun. We’re taking long walks on the beach and tanning all day long. But this transition from pale to tan can’t be taken lightly and what better way to start making your skin a priority than right now.
We all dream too have ageless and sun kissed skin and everyone has the power to obtain this dream. All you need is the right SPF and the right airbrush tan. Many people do the “fake and bake” meaning tanning beds. Tanning beds are “last season” and most of all EXTREMELY damaging to your skin. Fine lines and wrinkles, age spots and of course skin cancer.
These are all effects that come from Ultra Violet lights from tanning beds. We are in the NOW! One of the best things to do to keep your skin feeling ageless is using an SPF (Sun Protector Factor) every two hours. Sunscreens are labeled with SPF numbers, the higher the number the higher protection. Many people have the misconception that if you apply SPF of 20 and apply a moisturizer with an SPF of 10 that you are actually wearing an SPF of 30. This is false.
The first layer you apply of SPF is the amount you are actually using and you still
have to re-apply in two hours. Another reason why many people, especially women, do not re-apply their sunscreen during the day is because they may have on a full face of makeup. We understand that fear, you applied your SPF moisturizer then applied your daily makeup. So the next question to ask is how would you apply the SPF again in two hours? The answer is simple, many retailers have mineral powders with an SPF so you can touch up every two hours while protecting your skin. So no excuses ladies. Buy the right products that contain SPF and keep your face looking healthy for a life time.
Now we know there are those of you who are reading this and saying to yourself “well I don’t get sunburned. I just get a tan so there is no need to apply sunscreen”. Sunscreen is just that, to screen you from the sun. Yes it prevents burn but the sun’s harmful rays will affect your skin regardless of burn. Damage from sunlight builds up with continued exposure to the sun, whether sunburn occurs or not. Not only are you trying to do your best to prevent skin cancer but other effects can include wrinkling, premature aging, dark spots, and an almost leathery appearance of the skin. We always need to remember something we only get one face and you want it looking its best for a lifetime. SPF, moisturizers and others ways to “fake” the tan look like spray tan are much better options than baking yourself like bread in an oven.
Calm your angry thoughts, we’re not saying you can’t be tan, we completely understand that some people cannot live without their tan. There’s a safe way to have a sun kissed glow while still looking ageless and being completely safe. This is airbrush tanning. Airbrush tanning is the safest way to make your skin feel and look stunning. What are some of the benefits of airbrush tanning you may ask? You get a perfect sunless glow, your skin will not peel from sun burn, and there isn’t any risk in getting any kind of skin cancer, dark spots or wrinkles. Let’s not forget the plus of instant gratification. So next time you go into the sun without any SPF or decide to walk into a tanning salon to “fake and bake”, remember this: skin cancer does kill and looking like your skin is made of leather is NOT a sexy look; looking young and vibrant is! This past month of May was skin cancer awareness month.
Sadly we all know someone who has suffered from any form of cancer, and we all
know that battle is one we want no one to have to face. If this is a way to save ourselves and others by simply applying the correct amount of sunscreen, let’s do it. SPF and airbrush tanning is the way to go.
