Pretty Polished Nails & My “Not so Flashy” Experience

I recently had an embarrassing discovery, my manicurist, Daniel removed my nail polish routinely as he does every 5-7 days and I looked down to see yellow nails.  I nearly shrieked with disgust...”Why are my nails yellow?”  Daniel, a New York State Licensed Manicurist at Coco Nail Spa in the Rye Ridge Shopping Center, answered back calmly, “Jill you never let your nails breathe, you always have nail polish on them, your nails are suffocating!”  Daniel was correct, According to New York City-based dermatologist Dr. Ariel Ostad, a possible cause may be the harmful chemicals in nail polish.  Harmful chemicals may include Formaldehyde.

How to get rid of yellow nails was easy.  The solution was extremely easy and obvious yet being in the Beauty Industry - this was not a beautiful solution.  The solution was to go bare...no nail polish and let my nails breathe.

I disregarded Daniel’s response and got my usual 2 coats of Esse, Vanity Fairest.  The next week I proudly walked into Coco and told Daniel I was ready to go bare.  I went nail polish free for nearly 6 weeks.  My yellow nails grew out beautifully.  My natural nail was pearly white with natural pink undertones...I was very proud!
