Nate Booker, of Scarsdale, spends much of his time in Tarrytown. He works at the several days a week, and when he's not working, he's in the Hudson preparing for the upcoming event on September 15.
Booker’s Team in Training blog posts caught my eye when, following that awful , he got personal about the bad rap of the river.
Cancer doesn't care if there was a sewage leak. Cancer doesn't care if you are grossed out by said sewage leak. Cancer doesn't care if your friends think you are crazy for swimming in the Hudson.
From his ongoing blog entries, you really get a sense of the challenges of swimming this river, ocean currents, and all.
Booker quoted our grumpy Seinfield friend George:
"The sea was angry that day my friends, like an old man trying to return soup at a deli!!" -George Costanza
Cancer doesn't care if you swallowed half of the Hudson trying to train for this swim. Cancer doesn't care if Seinfeld quotes come to you while you are swimming. Cancer doesn't care about shrinkage.
Booker said his inspiration to begin raising money for Leukemia began about six years ago when he met our local Leukemia survivor with more moxy than your average teenager. “She reminded me of my daughter so much that I knew that cancer can strike anyone, anytime and I had to join the team," Booker said. "Have been a supporter of [Leukemia and Lymphoma Society] LLS ever since."
Cancer doesn't take summers off. Cancer doesn't care if you are employed. Cancer doesn't care how many friends you have on Facebook.
Every year, charities have to raise money to stay alive. The research funded and the lives saved depend on outside donations. You know which charity I believe in.

Also, John Higgins of Thank You For Caring, has offered to donate a gift card to anyone who gives $25 or more to Booker’s fundraising efforts.
Thank you for caring!
