Patch Office Hours: Moon River Wednesday

Come chat with me at Moon River Grill Wednesday from 5 to 6:30 p.m. (and enjoy half-price apps at the bar while you’re at it).

My office hours have been far too Tarrytown-centric, says the editor who lives in Sleepy Hollow.

Please join me this Wednesday for my first evening office hours at the restaurant at the river-end of Beekman Moon River Grill. Hoping this will better accomodate some of you with day jobs who I haven't been able to meet thus far.

Order up some half-price appetizers at the bar (happy hour goes from 5 to 7 p.m.) and join me for a beer while we talk all-things-Patch.

Do you want to blog for Patch? Have a news tip? Want to talk about an issue important to you that Patch should be covering? Want to get your business listed, or claim the listing you do have? Just want to talk? Stop by a get a Patch pen while you're at it!

See you there (I'll be the one with Patch pens, bookmarks and a sticker on my laptop).

A big part of the problem is that the teachers' expectations about what supplies are necessary haveRead More become so extreme. When my kids were in school in Tarrytown, we would get a list at the beginning of every school year of the supplies we needed to buy. The parents were asked to buy a separate looseleaf binder for every single class our kids were taking and, for some classes, they asked for a looseleaf AND a spiral notebook. When I was in school, each kid had ONE looseleaf and we separated classes with dividers. Having SIX or seven loose leafs adds to backpack weight and costs a lot of money. My kids supply bills were often close to $100 apiece. The teachers have bought into this idea that all of these supplies are necessary and they are not. I'm not surprised that Staples is offering "rewards programs." Their advertising and marketing efforts have convinced the teachers that you must have a package of 12 red correcting pens, per child.
