Each year, the annual Celebrate Israel Parade in New York features dozens of marching groups, bands and floats – many of which are from Westchester. This year the parade will feature a group from Tarrytown. will be marching in the June 3 parade in Manhattan.
Other groups participating from Westchester include the Solomon Schechter School of Westchester (Hartsdale), Temple Beth Abraham (Tarrytown), “NOW” Israel of Northern Westchester (Croton-on-Hudson), The Westchester Klezmer Program, Westchester Community for Humanistic Judaism, Greenburgh Hebrew Center (Dobbs Ferry), Youth Arts Marching Cobras (Dobbs Ferry), Lincoln Park Jewish Center (Yonkers),The Rosenthal JCC (Pleasantville), X Factor Drumline (Mount Vernon), The Jewish Community Center of Harrison, The Westchester Brassmen Drum & Bugle Corps (Harrison), Westchester Day School (Mamaroneck), Westchester Hebrew High School (Mamaroneck), Westchester Reform Temple (Scarsdale), and The New Rochelle Jewish Coalition.
Hundreds of thousands of spectators are expected to gather this year to celebrate Israel, joined by a record 35,000 marchers. More than 200 marching groups will present colorful banners, costumes and props to express this year’s theme, “Israel Branches Out.” In honor of Israel and the Celebrate Israel Parade, the Empire State Building will shine its world-famous tower lights blue and white from June 1 through June 3.
To make the broadcast available to homes around the country and in Israel, My9 will broadcast live and stream the parade for the second year from 12 p.m. until its conclusion at approximately 4 p.m. on its website, www.my9tv.com.
“Thanks to our partnership with My9, tens of thousands of tristate residents unable to attend the Celebrate Israel Parade will be able to celebrate at home on June 3, showing their support for Israel by tuning in,” said JCRC-NY’s Michael Miller. “By airing a live telecast of the parade on My9, we can engage with those not physically at the parade but who want to experience its excitement.”
Harvey Kaylie, Brooklyn native and founder and president of Mini-Circuits, a worldwide leader in producing and designing communications and electrical engineering equipment, will serve as the parade’s grand marshal. Kaylie, who founded this company in his living room 42 years ago and is one of the world’s most-recognized authorities in the wireless components industry, has long been an ardent supporter of Israel and a number of Jewish causes, from Hebrew University in Jerusalem to UJA-Federation of New York.
