Mustangs Come From Behind to Beat Ossining in Final Minutes

On Saturday October 19th the Tarrytown under age 11 girls travel soccer team visited rival Ossining and won a thriller.  The Mustangs, playing without lead scorer Talia Fante, were down early after accidently scoring on themselves during an Ossining corner kick.  Caroline Grimes answered by driving the ball up the field and getting it to Emma Clarke who scored her first goal of the year.  The Mustangs continued to pressure and control the game, but missed many potential goals, including shots ricocheting off the post and cross bar by Julia Costa and Samantha Nutig.  Late in fourth quarter, Tarrytown had a throw-in deep in Ossining territory.  In what may be the play of the year, Samantha Nutig headed the high ball to her self and scissor kicked a pass to Maya Weitzen.  Maya hit an impressive volley into the net scoring her fourth goal of the year and insuring the Mustang win.

Sophie Sylves-Berry, Samantha Livingston, and Makayla Williams applied pressure from their wing position throughout the game.  They consistently penetrated Ossining territory and crossed the ball to the center of the field, setting up scoring opportunities.  On defense Maddy Navin, Annie Dineen, Catherine Grimes, and Sadie Swenson essentially shut Ossining down and continued to help start offensive counter attacks.  Julia Costa, Samantha Nutig, and Sophie Sylves-Berry were all solid at goalie.  The Mustangs next play Mt Pleasant Saturday 11/26 on the road.  They have not beaten Mt Pleasant in 5 tries but have tied the last 3 games.  A Tarrytown win will move the Mustangs into a tie for first place.  They now have 4 wins, no losses, and one tie on the year.
