Mustangs Sweep Fall Series with Cobras

On November 2nd the Tarrytown Mustangs defeated the Croton Cobras at Pocantico field 6-1.  When they played back in September in Croton they had similar results with a 4-1 victory.  Despite playing well, the Mustangs found themselves down early when Croton kicked a ball out of Keeper Sophie Sylves-Berry hands into the net.  Sam Nutig quickly tied the game dribbling though the Croton defense and zipping a ball past their keeper.  Next Sophie Sylves-Berry got the ball to Talia Fante who gave the Mustangs the lead for good with her team leading seventh goal of the year.  Next Maya Weitzen penetrated the Croton defense, stopped, and sent the ball back to Julia Costa.  Julia fired from a distance giving the Tarrytown under age 11 girls a 3-1 lead.  Julia then scored her second goal of the game, and fourth on the year, from 30 yards out over the keeper’s head who had strayed out too far.  Sam Nutig then scored her second goal of the game and third of the year giving the Mustangs a 4 goal advantage.  Finally Sophie-Sylves Berry made a beautiful cross to Samantha Livingston who blasted the ball past the keeper for the final score of the game and her first score of the season.  Emma Clarke and Caroline Grimes had great games moving the ball up the field and crossing to the center allowing the scoring onslaught.

On defense the Mustangs held strong with big efforts from Sadie Swenson, Annie Dineen, Catherine Grimes, and Maddy Navin.  Annie Dineen, Samantha Nutig, Julia Costa, and Sophie Sylves-Berry all split time at keeper.  The Mustangs are off this week and next play an older Croton Superstars team on November 16th at Pocantico.  They now have 6 wins, no losses, and one tie on the year.
