Soccer Girls Finish Regular Season With Big Win

One week after defeating the Ardsley Arsenal 7 to 2, the Tarrytown under age 10 girls travel soccer team, completed their mastery of their southern neighbors by defeating the Ardsley Spirit 7 to 0. Maya Weitzen scored her first of three goals off a beautiful cross from Catherine Grimes. Annie Dineen scored in the second quarter off an outside shot from her defensive position. Catherine Grimes had a career day with two goals of her own, one off an assist from Sam Livingston and one set up beautifully by Sophie Sylves-Berry. Emma Clarke finished the scoring action in the fourth quarter setting up her own shot.

Julia Costa and Maya Weitzen both had a perfect day at keeper, not allowing a single goal, and delivering beautiful targeted drop kicks. Samantha Nutig continued to control the action from her midfield position, setting up scoring runs and thwarting the Spirit advances. Sadie Swenson consistently shut down the Ardsley forwards and was robbed of a goal of her own by the Spirit keeper. Maddy Navin again led the defensive unit that now can boast 12 shut outs on the year. Talia Fante and Caroline Grimes displayed good sportsmanship by playing for the undermanned Spirit.

The Mustangs have finished the 2012-2013 regular season with 14 wins, 1 loss, and 3 ties. They now travel to Ossining for the Wiz of Oss Tournament on Saturday June 15th at the Ossining High School. There they will face Somers, Pleasantville, and Croton. If they win their division they may have to face Mt. Pleasant in the finals. Currently Tarrytown, Pleasantville, and Mt. Pleasant are tied for the league lead and if one of them wins the tournament, they will be the 2012-2013 area champion.
