Former Fire Chief, GM Worker, Dies at 58

Anthony Apollonio, formerly of Sleepy Hollow, died on Nov. 23 and is remembered for the many services he provided in the village.

Anthony Apollonio, a resident of Pooler, GA and formerly of Sleepy Hollow, died November 23, 2012. He was 58.

He was born on September 3, 1954 to Michael and Blanche Rizzi Apollonio in North Tarrytown. He worked as a fork lift driver for General Motors Corp. for many years. He was also a past coach for Tarrytown Wolfpack. He was also an active member of Pocantico Hook & Ladder of the Sleepy Hollow Fire Department. He had served the department as Chief as well as an arson investigator.

He is survived by his mother Blanche of Sleepy Hollow as well as his sisters Jeanette Hirchak of Pooler, GA and Michelle Apollonio of Montrose. He is also survived by his uncle Louis Rizzi, his nieces Lauren Hirchak and Rachel Apollonio, his nephew Joseph Hirchak, and his Aunt & Godmother Santa Nevelus.
He was predeceased by his wife Deborah in 1996.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at COFFEY FUNERAL HOME INC. in Tarrytown. His Funeral Mass will be held on Friday at 10:30 at Transfiguration Church in Tarrytown. Interment follows at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
