Sister Donaghy Dies at Marymount Convent

Sr. Bernadette Donaghy, RSHM, 93, died at Marymount Convent, Tarrytown on January 22.

Born in Tullydonnell, County Armagh, Ireland, on December 1, 1919 to Thomas and Mary Ann Creegan Donaghy, she entered the Religious Order of the Sacred Heart of Mary in 1946.

Sr. Bernadette lived her entire religious life in Tarrytown, beginning at Marymount School and Marymount Convent, where for many years she worked with the boarding students and was the infirmarian. She was responsible for the Marriage Encounters held at Marymount Convent and had a ministry to the hungry in the area. She served at Phelps Memorial Hospital in Sleepy Hollow, as a nurse and a eucharistic minister.

Sr. Bernadette is survived by many nieces and nephews in Ireland.

Services at Marymount Convent, 32 Warren Avenue, Tarrytown, NY. Monday, January 28: Visiting 3:00 - 7:30 pm, Vigil Service 7:30 pm. Tuesday, January 29: Mass of Christian Burial, 10:30 am. Burial Mount Calvary Cemetery, White Plains. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her name may be made to Religious Order of the Sacred Heart of Mary, 50 Wilson Park Drive, Tarrytown, NY, 10591.
