Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow Respond to News of Karen Brown's Death

On Wednesday afternoon Karen Brown's Facebook page, where she recently wrote messages about how much she missed her best friend, Jeannette Ho, turned into a sudden memorial for Brown herself.

Acquaintances and dear friends were stunned by the news that the woman found dead Wednesday morning in her Church street apartment was the 45-year-old graduate of Sleepy Hollow High School who clearly touched this community.

One wrote on Brown's page:

Tonight I join many others in trying to understand why someone so young would be taken from our world - and without warning. Stunned at the irony that just a year ago Karen lost her dear friend, Jeannette.

Tonight, I pray for the repose of Karen's soul, but most especially for her family and friends - as they try to make sense of this terrible and sudden loss.

Brian Doyle of J.P. Doyle's shared his own photo of her, writing, "Gone way way too soon. You will be missed Karen. A very, very heavy heart this evening."
Ho lost her long battle with cancer last September. Brown's death on the other hand had remained unexplained pending an autopsy from the County Medical Examiner on Thursday.

Official reports of a possible gas leak were later determined to be unfounded when Con Edison found no elevated natural gas levels in the home.
