Visiting Hours are Feb. 14 for Walter Koval

Walter J. Koval, 91, passed away on February 10, 2014. Walter was born in North Tarrytown,now Sleepy Hollow, to Charles and Anna (Varga) Koval. 

He was a lifelong resident of the Village and a communicant of Holy Cross RC Church where he married Gloria Galassi in October of 1947. She predeceased him in 2012.

Walter served in WWII with the US Army in the European Theater along with his twin brother Joe and brothers Willie and Eddie, also twins. After military service, Walter began work at General Motors' Chevrolet Division plant as did many of his siblings. He retired in 1985.

He was a member of VFW Post #1939, UAW Local 664 and the Slovak Catholic Sokol.

Walter is survived by his son, Walter J. Koval Jr. (Catherine nee Foley) 4 grandchildren: Kim Koval, Sherri Prohaszka, Keith and Kevin (Maria) Koval and 8 great grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters Catherine Vasko, Helen DeMilia and Dorothy Capossela.

He was predeceased by sister Mary Handzo and brothers Charles, John, George, William, Edward and Joseph.

The family will receive friends at Coffey Funeral Home, 91 North Broadway, Tarrytown, NY on Friday, February 14, 2014 4-8PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Teresa of Avila Church, 130 Beekman Avenue, Sleepy Hollow on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at 10:00AM and interment will follow at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
