The last Phelps Farmers Market of the season!

Mother Nature is on our side this week and the Phelps Farmers Market will go on. This will be our last market of the season - so please come out and support your favorite vendors. If you still haven't come to visit this gem of a market make a point of stopping by before we pack up our tents 'til next year.

This week, Ladles of Love will be dishing up heartwarming hot lunches like Parisian chicken stew, harvest celebration soup, lentil & Tuscan tomato soup, and even macaroni and cheese! (Take that, Sandy!).

Joe Mozzarella is back with his insanely creamy, fresh mozzarella that will change the way you think about this workhorse cheese.

He will also have caprese sandwiches and prosciutto and arugula sandwiches.
Rich Brownies will be  here with her dizzying array of brownies and blondies - from salted caramel to red velvet. Gluten-free? You're in luck - her gluten-free line boasts more dense chocolate than her regular brownies.

Honey Locust Farmhouse will be there with her charming cider cart and unforgettable cider donuts.

She has just created a new chocolate and organic pear "sauce" called "Belle Helene" - perfect to drizzle over ice cream. She should have quince and apples for pie.
Make sure you stop by the market tent where Rose will be selling/sampling some bite-size savory/sweet cookies like cinnamon orange, rosewater cranberry, chocolate orange spice, rosemary lemon salt, roasted leek, hot pepper, lavender, mocha ginger, coconut ginger & birch, maple cranberry. These lovely biscuits make for a great hostess gift should you be luck enough to be "guesting" not "hosting" this Thanksgiving.

Also: Maura & Nuccia will be selling their fruit and pumpkin crostatas and their chocolate pear tart.

Clean Ridge Soap Co., purveyors of soaps and lotions made from local herbs and flowers -  should be there tomorrow - if jury duty doesn't get in the way. Fingers crossed!

See you at the market! We're open from 11:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the parking lot of Rockwood Hall Park. Park at Phelps Hospital...

A big part of the problem is that the teachers' expectations about what supplies are necessary haveRead More become so extreme. When my kids were in school in Tarrytown, we would get a list at the beginning of every school year of the supplies we needed to buy. The parents were asked to buy a separate looseleaf binder for every single class our kids were taking and, for some classes, they asked for a looseleaf AND a spiral notebook. When I was in school, each kid had ONE looseleaf and we separated classes with dividers. Having SIX or seven loose leafs adds to backpack weight and costs a lot of money. My kids supply bills were often close to $100 apiece. The teachers have bought into this idea that all of these supplies are necessary and they are not. I'm not surprised that Staples is offering "rewards programs." Their advertising and marketing efforts have convinced the teachers that you must have a package of 12 red correcting pens, per child.
