I would like to propose that the Westchester County Center be renamed in honor and in memory of Andrew O'Rourke, former Westchester County Executive. I had the opportunity to serve as a member of the Board of Legislators during the administration of County Executive O'Rourke. The County Center would not have been renovated and modernized without the leadership and vision of Andy O'Rourke. Former County Executive O'Rourke persuaded county leaders, lawmakers, the business community and taxpayers of the importance of having a first class center. The County Center has been the venue for many exciting programs and events and has provided Westchester taxpayers with an enhanced quality of life.
It's my hope that future generations will remember the role Andrew O'Rourke had in making this happen. And, it is also my hope that the bipartisan approach Andy O'Rourke used in persuading Democrats and Republicans to work together will motivate future leaders to also put aside their partisan differences and to do what is best for the people.
Andrew O'Rourke deserves to be honored by having the County Center re-named the Andrew O'Rourke Westchester County Center. Everytime I pass the County Center I think of the leadership qualities Andrew O'Rourke showed when he successfully pushed for the renovation of this tremendous county asset.
