Phelps Memorial Hospital Center's Healthy Life series continues to offer the community a wide range of programs on health-related subjects as well as numerous health screenings and support groups. All events take place on the Phelps campus, 701 N. Broadway in Sleepy Hollow, unless otherwise noted. The Phelps Healthy Life Calendar for September follows:

Tuesdays, September 3 and 18 - Senior Steps Part of the Vitality program at Phelps Memorial Hospital Center, Senior Steps includes health screenings, nutrition education, exercise and special events for seniors. The club meets on the first and third Tuesdays of the month from 10:00-11:30 am in various locations throughout the hospital. Phelps M emorial Hospital Center, 701 North Broadway, Sleepy Hollow. Wednesday, September 4 - Mind Games Mind Games is a free activity and a fun way for seniors to help stimulate their minds and improve cognitive functioning (memory, visual recall, problem solving, focus and speed, and spatial reasoning) by playing Boggle, Set, the Memory Game, Sporkle and many other games in group, team and individual formats. Phelps Memorial Hospital Center, 701 North Broadway, Sleepy Hollow in the Auditorium at 2 -3:30 pm. Call 914-366-3937 to register.

Wednesdays, September 4 and 18 - Blood Pressure Screenings Conducted the first and third Wednesday morning of every month at Phelps Memorial Hospital Center, 701 North Broadway, Sleepy Hollow from 9:30 - 11:30 am in the Walkway Conference Room. Thursdays, September 5, 12, 19 and 26 - Phelps Farmers Market at the Par k Visit the Farmers Market at Phelps from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm every Thursday through November to purchase farm-fresh produce, meats and cheeses, baked goods, prepared foods and more. The market is held at the entrance to the Rockwood Hall area of Rockefeller State Park at the end of Route 117. Call (914) 366-3937 for information.

Monday, September 9 - Look Good . . . Feel Better is a free program at Phelps Memorial Hospital Center for women going through cancer treatment that teaches them beauty techniques to help manage the appearance-related side effects of their treatment. Makeup kits donated by cosmetic companies are given to each participant to take home. The program is offered in partnership with the American Cancer Society, The National Cosmetology Association, and the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association (CTFA) Foundation. Presented from 6- 8 pm in Room 545 of the Medical Services Building at Phelps, 755 North Broadway, Sleepy Hollow. Advance reg istration is required. Call (914)-366-3315 or 3345.

Tuesday, September 10 - Better Breathers Club; Pulmonary Fibrosis Support Group at Phelps Memorial Hospital Center, 701 North Broadway, Sleepy Hollow, from 12-1 pm in the Pulmonary Lab Gym (B Level). Presented by Susan DiFabio, RRT, Educational Coordinator for the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program. Registration is required. Call (914) 366-3712 to register.

Wednesday, September 11 - The Breakfast Club is a series of free breakfast meetings designed especially for seniors. Each session includes a presentation on a healthy lifestyle topic and a light exercise program. The group meets monthly, except for August and December, 8:30-10:30 am in the Cafeteria (G Level) at Phelps Memorial Hospital Center, 701 North Broadway in Sleepy Hollow. Thursdays, September 12 and 26 - Afternoon Bereavement Support Groups will be held on the second and fourth Thursday of the month, from 2:00 - 3:30pm. The group is facilitated by Bess Steiger, LCSW, Bereavement Coordinator, and meets in the Hospice Office in the James House on the Phelps campus,, 701 N. Broadway, Sleepy Hollow.
