About Town: Top Honors for SHFD Junior Corps

Chronicling notable events in Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow.

On August 5, the Sleepy Hollow Fire Department's Junior Corps received their first trophy.

The Junior Corps marched in the Ossining Firemans' Parade and received top honors for Best Appearing Junior Corps. It was the first judged parade the Junior Corps marched in. Those who participated included Eudy Mata, Steven Bencosme, Julio Sosa, John Cabezas, Jerry Diaz, Gabriel Gonzalez and Alfredo Santana.

The SHFD Junior Corps consists of youths age 14 to 17. They are equipped like normal firefighters, but are limited in what types of firefighting activity they can engage in.

The program has been in existence since 2009, and has 20 current members.
