A Nyack man is accused of felony drunken driving after he slammed his car into a boat at an Upper Nyack boatyard and caused about $30,000 damage, according to Clarkstown police.
Dennis Carroll, 39, was spotted driving at a high rate of speed about 4:30 p.m. on Saturday from a pier at Petersen's Boatyard in Upper Nyack, police said. A witness told police that Carroll lost control of his 2002 Mitsubishi and struck a boat that was up on stands.
The impact knocked the boat over and caused an estimated $30,000 worth of damage from the boat falling on its side, police said. The boat was built in 1985, but police did not have additional details on the type or model of the boat.
When Clarkstown police officers investigated the accident, police said, Carroll was found to be intoxicated and a check of his background revealed he had previously been convicted of driving while intoxicated. Carroll was taken to Clarkstown police headquarters in New City, where police said he refused to take a chemical breath test for alcohol.
Carroll was arraigned in Clarkstown Town Court and released pending a May 1 hearing on a felony charge of driving while intoxicated.
