UPDATE (12:00 PM) - Central Park Avenue in Greenburgh is re-opened to traffic after being closed for an investigation of a suspicious package late this morning.
Greenburgh Police Chief Joe De Carlo said it turned out that an item left over from an apparent shoplifting incident prompted a passerby on Central Park Avenue to call police. The call led to the precautionary closing of Central Park Avenue at Harvard Drive, with local traffic diverted through Scarsdale.
De Carlo said the suspicious item turned out to be an electronic tag that is used by clothing stores to prevent theft. The tag was covered in aluminum foil, apparently in a successful effort to prevent the tag from sounding an alarm as a clothing item was taken from a store.

Greenburgh police have shut busy Central Park Avenue in both directions for an investigation of a suspicious package.
The major artery through the area is closed at Harvard Drive.
Greenburgh police said a passerby called in a report about the suspicious package and that the road closure is part of a precautionary effort to keep the public at least 300 feet away from the package.
Greenburgh firefighters are also at the scene not far from the Trader Joe's store on Central Avenue.
