Cops: Local Guys Face Felony Charges for Stealing Van

Police said they found the driver of the van to be unlicensed and none of the passengers claimed to know who the van belonged to.

The keys were in the ignition so somehow three local guys thought that was a good opportunity to drive off with someone's van.

At first, Tarrytown Police on Oct. 12, stopped the white van on Cortlandt Street for a lighting violation at 9:27 p.m.

Police said they found the driver of the van to be unlicensed and none of the passengers claimed to know who the van belonged to.

Police took the men to headquarters to interview them further. The registered owner of the van was contacted who said none of the guys had permission to use the van, and he didn't know them.

The owner told police that the van had been parked the day prior on Andrews Lane in Sleepy Hollow with the key in it, and he wished to file charges.

Tarrytown police arrested:

  • Edgar D. Patino, 19, of Tarrytown,
  • and Edisson B. Pugo, 19, of Sleepy Hollow

on charges of grand larceny in the fourth, a felony, and criminal possession of stolen property,

Police placed the van in the impound yard for evidence.

The three defendants were each released on $1,000 cash bail with a return court date.

Lt. William Herguth said he didn't know why they took off with the van and what their intentions were with it.

Note: An arrest does not indicate a conviction.
