Knifepoint Robbery at Pleasantville Gas Station

Police are investigating the early morning robbery that took place on Pleasantville Road.

In the 29 years he has owned on Pleasantville Road, Ron—who declined to provide his last name—said he has never been robbed.

"He got robbed at about a quarter after six this morning," said Ron of his employee, Al Wasim. "He was counting the money from the weekend when two guys came in and demanded the money."

Ron said the pair brandished a knife at Wasim, who was standing just inside the gas station's storefront entrance.

Wasim said he was also shoved by one of the men, who he described as black and about 30- to 35-years-old, from a distance. He said he was not hurt in the altercation.

Wasim described handing the men all the station's cash—approximately $1,380. The two then ran from the scene. He was unable to describe the vehicle they left in.

officers would not comment on the alleged robbery, except to say that is remains under investigation.

Ron said he never installed security cameras at the quiet Pleasantville Road gas station because he never felt it was necessary.

"I've never been robbed in 30 years," he said.

And now?

"No, I don't think so."

A big part of the problem is that the teachers' expectations about what supplies are necessary haveRead More become so extreme. When my kids were in school in Tarrytown, we would get a list at the beginning of every school year of the supplies we needed to buy. The parents were asked to buy a separate looseleaf binder for every single class our kids were taking and, for some classes, they asked for a looseleaf AND a spiral notebook. When I was in school, each kid had ONE looseleaf and we separated classes with dividers. Having SIX or seven loose leafs adds to backpack weight and costs a lot of money. My kids supply bills were often close to $100 apiece. The teachers have bought into this idea that all of these supplies are necessary and they are not. I'm not surprised that Staples is offering "rewards programs." Their advertising and marketing efforts have convinced the teachers that you must have a package of 12 red correcting pens, per child.
