Update: Police Looking for Witnesses of Fatal Accident on 119

Police are asking that any witnesses come forward with information on the accident that killed an 80-year-old female pedestrian on Tuesday evening on Route 119.

Tarrytown Police Chief Scott Brown said the driver, a 20-year-old man from Sleepy Hollow, was going eastbound on 119 when he struck the woman about 200 yards from the intersection with Meadow Street. It was dark by then and raining. The area has crosswalks in each direction. 

Police started receiving numerous 911 calls about the accident around 4:55 p.m.

Both Tarrytown Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Greenburgh paramedics responded to the scene. Chief Brown said the victim was first taken to Westchester County Medical Center in Valhalla where she was declared dead. 

The examiner's office will conduct an autopsy Wednesday on the woman identified as Bernadette Brennan, 80, of John Street, Tarrytown.

Detectives from both the Tarrytown police force and the county's accident investigation unit stayed on the scene for hours. The investigation is still open. 

"Any person who may have witnessed the accident is urged to contact detectives at 631-1514," Chief Brown said.
