Mistress Complains About Lover's Wife, and Other Sleepy Hollow Police News

A summary of recent police activity and arrests in the village of Sleepy Hollow.

The Wife Keeps Calling Me!

A woman came into Sleepy Hollow police headquarters on Dec. 5 to complain that someone had repeatedly been contacting her for the last month through Facebook, Instagram and texts.

It was the wife of the man she had an affair with who was apparently harassing her, making comments about the affair in her messages.

Police said no threat was made however and the complainant wished for no further action.

Three Drug Arrests

Police arrested three on charges of criminal possession of a controlled substance on Dec. 5 around 11:30 p.m.

They charged:
  • a 27-year-old man from Poughkeepsie,
  • a 26-year-old woman from Wappingers Falls,
  • and a 20-year-old woman from Wappingers Falls
after finding them in possession of an unnamed and undisclosed amount of drugs in a car they stopped in front of 31 Beekman Avenue.

Carbon Monoxide? Back to Sleep

A Gory Brook Road woman reported to police that her carbon monoxide detector was going off at 3 a.m. in the morning. She turned the alarm off and went back to sleep.

Later while speaking with a friend, the friend suggested she call the fire department. She reported to authorities no symptoms of feeling ill.

A full fire response was dispatched. Responders found old/faulty batteries in the detector were to blame, and they got a negative read for carbon monoxide.

Trying to Run Boyfriend Off Road

A woman told police on Dec. 6 that someone around 2 p.m. had tried to run her boyfriend, who was walking, off the road with a car at 199 North Broadway.

However, Police Chief Gregory Camp said he has his doubts. This "possibly did not occur as subject [boyfriend] does not wish to cooperate with the investigation," he said, describing, "ongoing issues between all subjects involved."

Bar Patrons, Taxi Ruckus

A caller reported to police at 4:15 a.m. on Dec. 8 on Clinton Street that people were yelling and arguing in the street. Officers sent and reported that bar patrons had left the area before police got there.

A second caller then asked for police to return since there was now a dispute going on between a bar patron and a taxi driver over a parking space.

Police spoke to both men and sent them on their way.

Bear Mountain Raccoon

Park Rangers from Bear Mountain reported to Sleepy Hollow police that one of their officers were out on Dec. 8 before noon with a sick raccoon on Sleepy Hollow Road.
Officers were sent and report that a shot shell was used to kill the animal.

Chief Camp explained that they were checking out the park when they spotted the sick raccoon.

Snowstorm Troubles

Tarrytown reported only one minor possibly snow-related accident on private property, as did Sleepy Hollow.

A caller reported he had just skid of the road by 63 Sleepy Hollow Road and hit the curb at 8:34 a.m., Dec. 10. Police towed the car and asked for a sander for the road.

Hand/Door Accident

At 10:23 a.m., a caller reported he was in an accident on North Broadway by Mickey's Automotive, which said police, had nothing to do with the minor snowstorm.

A man was taken to Westchester Medical Center by ambulance for a broken hand, police said.

Chief Camp said the man was unloading goods from his parked van; he had his hand on the door when a car going by struck his hand and the door.

Neighbors Hear Gunshots

Several neighbors reported to police that they had heard the same series of what sounded like the pop-pop of gunshots on New Broadway.

A caller on Dec. 10 at 8:26 p.m. said she heard what sounded like several gunshots in the area. She said her neighbor told her she heard the same thing.

Four police units were sent and talked to the caller who said she heard four pops, a pause, and then two more. Police observed no pedestrian or vehicular traffic in the area.

Police spoke with another neighbor who also heard the sounds. They said it sounded low caliber from possibly a .22 or a BB gun.

Police searched the area and found no damage or other evidence.

Note: an arrest does not indicate a conviction.
