Police Beat – Sleepy Hollow: Surprise Party Binding and Blindfolding; Oasis Assault

Man Walking Dog on Roadway

Police Lieutenant Anthony Bueti reported seeing a man wearing Rangers attire walking his dog in the roadway of North Broadway just after noon on May 19. Irvington Ambulance arrived to evaulate the man who was deemed not to be a risk to himself or any one else and was sent on his way.

Drunk Man Trying to Get Into Someone's Car

A caller reported on May 20 at 6:31 a.m. that a man who appeared to be drunk was attempting to get into her neighbor's car. Police on the scene called for medical support due to the man's intoxicated state. Man was arrested for disorderly conduct and possession of a controlled substance. Ossining Ambulance responded and man was transported to .

Surprise! Man Blindfolded and Bound

On May 20 at 1:06 p.m., Mt. Pleasant police reported that someone had seen a man blindfolded and bound being placed into a black Nissan Quest near exit 16 of the Saw Mill Parkway. The vehicle was later seen entering . Sleepy Hollow Police arrived at the farm to discover the man had been blindfolded for a surprise party and advised Mt. Pleasant police to respond with caution.

Marijuana Gatherings

There were several calls regarding groups apparently smoking marijuana in various parks. On May 21 at 9:35 p.m., a caller said two women seemed to be passing a pipe back at forth in the gazebo at . Police found a man and woman talking but no sign of illegal activity. Another call came the next day at 3:41 p.m. for four individuals in the gazebo possibly smoking marijuana. Units sent and recorded names and information for those present but again no sign of drug use was observed. Finally, just after 4 p.m. that day, a caller on New Broadway reported that kids went into to smoke pot. Police arrested three offenders.

Young Runaway Found

White Plains police are searching for last seen in that city. Meanwhile, last week in Sleepy Hollow an 11-year-old went missing but was soon found. A Hunter Avenue resident stated on May 22 at 6:58 a.m. she discovered that morning that her son left home around 5:30 on his bike. She thought he may have taken an early train to his midtown NYC school. He left a note and may have tried to run away. Tarrytown PD checked the Tarrytown train station, while SHPD checked Philipse Manor station. At 7:12 a.m., Tarrytown police located the youth at the and the boy was taken home.

Oasis Assault

A man came into headquarters to report he had been the victim of an assault from males at the on Beekman on May 19 around 2 a.m. He stated that at least two Oasis employees – the bartender and door staff – witnessed the event. The victim said he felt dizzy when he woke up this morning and complained of head and rib pain. The man was transported to Phelps. Statement and photos were taken and the case and Alcoholic Beverage Control referral completed.

A big part of the problem is that the teachers' expectations about what supplies are necessary haveRead More become so extreme. When my kids were in school in Tarrytown, we would get a list at the beginning of every school year of the supplies we needed to buy. The parents were asked to buy a separate looseleaf binder for every single class our kids were taking and, for some classes, they asked for a looseleaf AND a spiral notebook. When I was in school, each kid had ONE looseleaf and we separated classes with dividers. Having SIX or seven loose leafs adds to backpack weight and costs a lot of money. My kids supply bills were often close to $100 apiece. The teachers have bought into this idea that all of these supplies are necessary and they are not. I'm not surprised that Staples is offering "rewards programs." Their advertising and marketing efforts have convinced the teachers that you must have a package of 12 red correcting pens, per child.
