Police Beat - Tarrytown: Straight Hat, Clothes Stolen from Washing Machine, Stuck in New Train Elevator

A summary of incidents in Tarrytown from January 26 to February 2, 201

 

The reported the following incidents:

Jan. 26

1:52 a.m. Police stopped a vehicle on North Washington Street for a violation but driver failed to comply and fled northbound on Route 9. Officer stopped vehicle at Rice Street and Spruce Street in Sleepy Hollow. Police check revealed the vehicle to be valid but the operator license to be revoked and that the operator was under arrest for DWI. Car impounded and operator transported to headquarters where he refused to consent to a breath test on three separate occasions. Further investigation revealed driver had a prior DWI conviction on November 9, 2011 out of Briarcliff Manor, thus escalating current charge to a felony. Rayshon O. Belton, 20, was arraigned with bail set at $5,000 cash and $10,000 bond.

1:04 p.m. Officer reported that he was out on an investigation at the train station with a suspicious person. Party was observed looking into numerous vehicles on Cortlandt Street. When interviewed, the man produced a valid state ID and said he was looking into windows to see if his hat was on straight. No damage was observed on any of the vehicles.

2:20 p.m. Complainant in lobby to report items of clothing stolen from washing machine at laundromat at 22 Main Street. Clothing including jeans, t-shirts, fleece pullover jacket of $250 approximate value stolen on Jan. 24 sometime after 6 p.m. Suspect is a white female, heavy set, with reddish colored hair, as seen on surveillance video taking clothes out of washer and leaving with them. Complaint report filed.

Jan. 29

1:18 p.m. Pedestrian was hit by a car on South Broadway. Officer reported minor injury to pedestrian, Margaret Green, who was treated on scene by Tarrytown Volunteer Ambulance Corps for a small laceration to her shoulder. She refused further medical assistance. Operator, Lisa Bergman, was issued summons for striking a pedestrian in a crosswalk. Accident report filed. 

7:28 p.m. 911 caller reported there was a garbage can on fire in Patriots Park in the area of the basketball courts. Tarrytown Fire Department dispatched and extinguished fire, reporting that an unknown accelerant was used.

7:41 p.m. Caller in headquarters reported her wallet was stolen on this date sometime between 3 and 5 p.m. while she was forking at the store at 4 South Washington Street. Wallet contained cash, credit cards, and her NYS driver's license. At 10:34 p.m., the owner of Quirky reported a second wallet stolen in the same time frame from the store. Larceny complaint filed. 

Jan. 30

6:27 p.m. 911 caller reported she was involved in a two-car accident at White Plains Road. Officer requested TVAC for a party complaining of facial injuries due to air bag deployment. Female was transported to Phelps Memorial Hospital. 

6:38 p.m. 911 caller reported she was stuck in the new elevator on the west side of the tracks at the . Fire department responded but caller contacted headquarters to report she was now out of elevator.
