Police Chief: Vandals Burned Village Truck, Damaged Other Vehicles

One DPW truck was destroyed, others damaged in a weekend incident being investigated as arson.

In a press release from Sleepy Hollow Police Chief Gregory Camp:

On Sunday May 6, 2012 at about 3:45 p.m., the Sleepy Hollow Police Department received reports of a vehicle on fire at the vacant lot of the General Motors Corp at Beekman and River Street. Police responded to the scene as well as the Sleepy Hollow Fire Department being dispatched.

Officers on the scene confirmed that an older Dodge pickup truck belonging to the Village of Sleepy Hollow Departmentof Public Works was on fire. The fire department responded and put out the fire. Officers on the scene noted several other vehicles were damaged with broken windows and lights.

Several of the vehicles were entered and contents removed. The vehicle set on fire was destroyed.

This incident is being investigated as a vehicle arson and also criminal mischief to the other village vehicles.

The incident remains under investigation and the total number of vehicles damaged is not determined at this time, as well as if any property was taken or missing.
