A 49-year-old Elmsford woman who was driving drunk and drove the wrong way on Interstate 684 hit a state trooper’s patrol car before she could be stopped, according to State Police.
Donna Moore was ordered held in the Putnam County Correctional Facility on $1,000 bail as a result of the 10 p.m. incident in Southeast on Tuesday.
Troopers at the Southeast barracks said the sideview mirror of a State Police patrol car was smashed off when Moore sideswiped the marked vehicle, but the trooper in the car was not injured. At the time, the trooper was finishing an unrelated traffic stop on the shoulder of southbound I-684 near the Route 22 interchange.
State Police said that shortly before the collision took place they had received a 911 call reporting a car heading south in the northbound lanes. After the collision, police said the state trooper was able to chase after the 2007 Audi A4 and safely stop the vehicle.
Moore was alone in the car at the time. Police were uncertain where she was going or where she had been.
By the time Moore struck the police car she had managed to navigate back onto the correct side of the road, police said.
Moore was charged with:
- Driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor
- Reckless driving, a misdemeanor
- Second-degree reckless endangerment, a misdemeanor
- Leaving the scene of an accident, an infraction
- Refusing to submit to a chemical breath test for alcohol, an infraction
Moore was arraigned before Southeast Town Judge Richard W. Vercollone and she faces another hearing on Oct. 2.
