Reward Increased for Information on Yonkers Cat Slayings
Geezer Butler of the band Black Sabbath is adding $1,000 to the reward for information leading to the arrest of responsible parties in the cat killings discovered in Yonkers last month.
The reward provided by the SPCA of Westchester and several organizations has been increased to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons involved in the killing of 25 cats in Yonkers.
Originally, the reward was a combined $18,250, but with the help of Geezer Butler, a member of the heavy metal band Black Sabbath, the SPCA of Westchester announced Tuesday that reward has been increased.
Below is the text of the SPCA of Westchester's announcement:
Shannon Laukhuf, Executive Director of the SPCA of Westchester announced today that the total amount of reward money offered in the Yonkers cat killing case is now at $25,000.
“We are very fortunate to announce that Geezer Butler, member of the famed heavy metal band, Black Sabbath, has offered to contribute $1,000 for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the horrendous killing of 25 cats in Yonkers last month. The total amount of the reward money reflects the resolve of the SPCA and the community to find the perpetrators of one of the worst cases of animal cruelty Westchester County has ever known.”
In a statement, Butler expressed his hope that someone might share information about the crime with the SPCA. “It is so tragic that we have human beings among us that are capable of committing such a heinous and heartless crime. Surely there is someone out there that knows who has done this. Please do the right thing and come forward to get this coward(s) off the streets.”

The SPCA’s HLE Unit, under the direction of Ernest Lungaro, is still conducting an investigation of the incident in which 25 dead cats were found in plastic grocery-type bags, hanging from a tree at 14Overlook Terrace. It was determined that the cats were killed by blunt force trauma to the head. The SPCA is working in conjunction with the Yonkers Police Major Case Squad, Yonkers Police Field Intelligence Office, as well as the District Attorney’s office in an ongoing investigation to bring the person(s) responsible for this heinous crime to justice
