Scarborough Woman Charged with Tarrytown DWI

Sharon Pickett was arrested after a 911 caller reported an erratic driver on Route 9; a carload of young men was ticketed in Sleepy Hollow.

On Jan. 7 at 1:23 p.m, a 911 caller reported seeing an erratic driver about to enter Tarrytown southbound from Sleepy Hollow on Route 9. She described a yellow Jeep wrangler with a female driver.

Tarrytown police officers stopped the car in question, with Rhode Island plates, at Central Avenue and North Broadway.

Police placed the driver under arrest for driving while intoxicated. Sharon Pickett, 55, of Scarborough, consented to a breathalyzer test which resulted in a positive reading. She was charged with:

  • aggravated driving while intoxicated,
  • driving while intoxicated,
  • and operating an unregistered motor vehicle on the highway.

At 5:08 p.m., she was a released to a responsible person with a return court date.

In Sleepy Hollow, a 19-year-old from Tarrytown was charged with DWI and his four passengers all issued tickets for possession of alcohol by a minor.

On Jan. 10 at 11:05 p.m., Sleepy Hollow police took one man into custody for driving while intoxicated. The Tarrytown teen had a blood alcohol count of .20.

He also had four passengers in his car, who were all issued court appearance tickets by the Greenburgh Task Force for unlawful possession of alcohol by persons under the age of 21. Three young men were from Sleepy Hollow and were 20, 19, and 18; one 18-year-old was from Tarrytown.

When my kids were in school in Tarrytown, we would get a list at the beginning of every school year of the supplies we needed to buy. The parents were asked to buy a separate looseleaf binder for every single class our kids were taking and, for some classes, they asked for a looseleaf AND a spiral notebook. When I was in school, each kid had ONE looseleaf and we separated classes with dividers. Having SIX or seven loose leafs adds to backpack weight and costs a lot of money. My kids supply bills were often close to $100 apiece. The teachers have bought into this idea that all of these supplies are necessary and they are not. I'm not surprised that Staples is offering "rewards programs." Their advertising and marketing efforts have convinced the teachers that you must have a package of 12 red correcting pens, per child.
