Sick Raccoon at Medical Building Disappears Down Sewer and Other SHPD News

A summary of recent police activity and arrests in the village of Sleepy Hollow.

The Bread Eaters

A delivery driver reported to police that he had brought bread for the Trinity Grocery store on Cortlandt Street, leaving it in the hallway just before 5 a.m.

But there were three men there who began to eat the bread. 

Police found two guys who were intoxicated and said they lived in the building. A bag of bread was in the hallway and it was unknown if any was missing. 

Many Summonses

Police stopped a driver on Nov. 14 at 5:43 p.m. who didn't stop for a red light and found him with all kinds of infractions. 

The pulled over the car on Route 9 at Millard Avenue. The car had no license, the driver was unlicensed with no insurance, no registration and improper plates. The driver received six summonses. 

Not a Theft

A caller reported that while she was in the 5 South building at Phelps Hospital her cell phone and wallet were taken from her handbag. 

She reported this on Nov. 17 at 7:47 p.m., saying her bag had been left in the nurses' station. 

Chief Camp said they reviewed video footage and found that nothing was taken and items must have been lost elsewhere.

Punched in Face, Hit with Brush

A woman came to headquarters on Nov. 19 saying that her ex-boyfriend's father had punched her in the face and the ex-boyfriend hit her with a paintbrush. 

She said this happened while she was picking up her son on College Avenue. 

She filed a complaint at the two men, ages 61 and 31, both from Sleepy Hollow, were arrested and charged with aggravated harassment in the second. 

Missing Husband

A woman called police, concerned that her husband hadn't come home yet. She said on Nov. 19 at 6:30 p.m. that her husband leaves the house every day to drive to Kendal on Hudson to go for a walk. She said he always returns when it's still daylight out and had not yet come home. 

Officers check the area around the complex and were unable to find his car. The husband did return after having gone somewhere else, Chief Camp said.

Drunk Dad

A 911 caller reported to police on Nov. 19 at 8:17 p.m. that her drunk father was beating up her husband. 

Officers respond and found out the older man had come home intoxicated with a woman. His son-in-law confronted him about it which prompted an argument. 

Police filed a domestic incident report. 

Sick Raccoon

A caller reported that there appeared to be a sick raccoon in the parking lot of the medical building at 358 North Broadway. 

Officers found it and went to headquarters for a snare and safety rounds. 

Upon returning they found that the raccoon had since escaped into the sewer.
