Sleepy Hollow PD: Domestic Threats

Two domestic incidents in Sleepy Hollow had police arresting men for reportedly brandishing weapons, or fake weapons. And then there was a report of a sledge hammer.

On Oct. 12, at 5:06 p.m., police were responding to a domestic incident during which a man was apparently wielding a knife in front of his family in a Cortlandt Street apartment after assaulting his mother. In addition to being faced with a man apparently brandishing a knife at them as well, officers reported sideswiping a parked vehicle, leaving damage to the rear passenger side of the car and damage on the cruiser’s quarter panel. Photos were taken and a note left for the car’s owner to contact police for an accident report.

Sleepy Hollow PD had contacted Tarrytown for backup but upon Tarrytown’s arrival, SHPD had the situation under control and one man under arrest. .

On Oct. 17 at  7:47 p.m., a 911 call from a woman on Lawrence Avenue screaming with a child crying in the background. Police were unable to determine nature of the call. Officers sent and reported finding people arguing in front of a residence. A woman had borrowed her exhusband’s car and he and boyfriend were fighting over the car in the street. The boyfriend had apparently displayed a new firearm which “looked very real,” said Lieutenant Anthony Bueti and threatened the exhusband with it with a child present.

The police detective recovered a black beretta imitation pistol (BB gun) from a black leather jacket out of a closet in the bedroom. Child protective services contacted.

Yuriy Rudenko, 36, from Stamford CT, was arrested with bail set at $3,500; he voluntarily surrended his passport.

__

Finally, on Oct. 23 at 9:39 a.m., a walk-in complainant to the SHPD reported that on Oct. 5 he had an argument with a former employee. When the argument escalated the employee supposedly threw a sledge-hammer in his direction. Complainant wished this noted for the record.

A big part of the problem is that the teachers' expectations about what supplies are necessary haveRead More become so extreme. When my kids were in school in Tarrytown, we would get a list at the beginning of every school year of the supplies we needed to buy. The parents were asked to buy a separate looseleaf binder for every single class our kids were taking and, for some classes, they asked for a looseleaf AND a spiral notebook. When I was in school, each kid had ONE looseleaf and we separated classes with dividers. Having SIX or seven loose leafs adds to backpack weight and costs a lot of money. My kids supply bills were often close to $100 apiece. The teachers have bought into this idea that all of these supplies are necessary and they are not. I'm not surprised that Staples is offering "rewards programs." Their advertising and marketing efforts have convinced the teachers that you must have a package of 12 red correcting pens, per child.
