Sleepy Hollow Police Crack Down on Drinking in Streets

A summary of recent police activity and arrests in the village of Sleepy Hollow.

Busy Prisoner

A prisoner arrested by South Hampton Court and currently being held at Yaphank Jail on Long Island on September 5 was wanted by Sleepy Hollow police for failure to show in court here on a former DWI charge.

The defendant, a 48-year-old man from Queens, was charged on Long Island with possession of a forged instrument on $10,000 cash bail.

First, police informed our department that the prisoner would be held at Yaphank and then transferred to Suffolk County Court for a warrant there, and then we could process them here.

Verizon Fraud

A person came into Sleepy Hollow police headquarters on September 6 to report that his name and social security number had been used by an unknown person to open a Verizon cell phone account. The phone had three cell phones attached to it.
The complainant suspended the account and requested a police report in order to cancel it.

Open Containers

Police issued a number of open container summons last week:
  • On September 7 at 11:30 p.m. on Cortlandt Street.
  • At 11:43 p.m. at 26 Clinton Street.
  • At 11:53 p.m. at 186 Cortlandt Street. This time the person fled on foot. He was later found at 12:15 a.m. and police then issued him the open container summons.
  • On Sept. 9 at 11:56 p.m. police issued a summons to someone on Beekman Avenue.
Possible Cocaine

While out conducting a park inspection on Sept. 7 at 12:55 a.m., an officer noticed someone who looked to be in possession of a white powdery substance. Police arrested the 26-year-old Sleepy Hollow man for criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh for alleged cocaine.

Note: An arrest does not indicate a conviction.
