Sleepy Hollow Police: Hospital, Health Aide Thefts; Car Damages

A summary of recent police activity and arrests in the village of Sleepy Hollow.

Home Health Aid Theft

A Beekman Avenue caller reported a home health aide took cash from her apartment. Police are investigating and did not release the amount taken.

Sgt. Scammed

NYPD called Sleepy Hollow police on August 8 at 2;25 p.m. to inform them that they had an off-duty sergeant on the line who was the victim of a scam, namely the false abduction of her daughter. 

At this time the sergeant was pulling into Phelps Memorial Hospital. Local officers met with the woman, who said she'd follow up with Ossining police. Sleepy Hollow police had no further info.

Devries Door Damage

A building at Devries Park suffered some damage from an attempted break-in discovered by the DPW on August 9 at 8:06 a.m., police said. 

They estimated the damages at about $400. Chief Gregory Camp said a door was damaged and "entry thwarted."

Car Damages

On August 9 at 6:27 p.m. a woman on Riverside Drive reported to police that the window to her car was broken and items were missing. 

On August 12 at 10:57 a.m. someone reported that she had parked her car in the rear of the College Arms building at 1 a.m. When she returned that morning she noticed that someone had damaged her car. Police confirmed that the driver's side was damaged in front and the lighting items had been stolen. Namely, said Chief Camp, the directional/parking light housing was gone.

On August 13 at 1:33 p.m., a man told police they had parked on Clinton Street on August 12 around 4 p.m. and returned at 5 a.m. today to discover his car radio had been stolen.

Money Stolen at Hospital

A caller reported to police on August 13 at 2:12 p.m. that money had been stolen from her jacket pocket in the hospital. 

Officers spoke with the complainant, the complainant's brother and hospital staff. She reported $60 cash had been taken from a black shirt in an exam room at Phelps.
