SPCA of Westchester, Organizations Offer $18,250 in Rewards in Cat Killing Case

The SPCA of Westchester, in conjunction with other area animal rights organizations, are offering a combined $18,250 in rewards for information leading to the "arrest and conviction of an individual or individuals in the killing of 25 cats in Yonkers."

Last week, the remains of 25 beaten and bagged cats - hanging from trees - were discovered at 14 Overlook Terrace in Yonkers. The discovery was made by a Yonkers Public Works employee during routine clean up at the property.

The SPCA is working with local law enforcement to investigate the case. Below is the group's press release concerning the reward: 

SPCA of Westchester’s Executive Director, Shannon Laukhuf announced today that a significant sum of money would be offered as a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of an individual or individuals in the killing of 25 cats in Yonkers.

“The SPCA is very grateful to the following animal welfare organizations who have responded to our Humane Law Enforcement investigation with generous offers of rewards.” Laukhuf said. 

The organizations are: ASPCA, contributing $5,000; The Humane Society of the United States contributing $5,000; The Animal Legal Defense Fund contributing $5,000; The Defense of Animals Fund contributing $2,500; Alley Cat Allies contributing $750.00.

“These significant rewards highlight the horrific nature of this crime, and we are hopeful that the offer of this money will create an incentive for individuals with pertinent information on the case to come forward,” Laukhuf added.
