Stranded Boat Saved in the Hudson

The boat was taking on water near the Tappan Zee.

High winds, choppy waters, and a failed electrical system cut short a leisure boat ride on the Hudson earlier today.

The civilian speed boat was out for the afternoon when a combination of weather and malfunctions caused the craft to start taking on water.

The boaters sent out a distress call shortly before 3 p.m. while they were in the vicinity of the Tappan Zee Bridge.

The Tarrytown Fire Department's Fire Boat Five responded to the distress call along with county units and made contact with the boat a few hundred yards south of the bridge in the middle of the river.

The passengers were secured by the Tarrytown Fire Department and the boat was towed to the Tarrytown Boat Club Marina by a Westchester County Police boat.
