Man Killed on Tappan Zee Bridge After Exiting His Vehicle

The Maryland man was crushed between his trailer and the bridge's side barrier.

Update: A 53-year-old man, Michael L. Haring of Cambridge, Maryland, was killed today at approximately 1 p.m. after exiting his vehicle on the Tappan Zee Bridge superstructure.

He left his car after experiencing trouble with his trailer, which was hitched behind his car, authorities said.

"The trailer likely fell off the hitch," said Sargent Kevin Flynn with the Tarrytown State Police Department.

While attempting to fix the problem, another vehicle rear-ended the trailer, pinning the man between the trailer and the bridge's side barrier. He was pronounced dead at Westchester Medical Center, police said.
