The Hastings-on-Hudson School District reported two suspicious males on campus on Sept. 6.
The first, a 26-year-old from Tarrytown, was observed by teachers in Hastings-on-Hudson High School talking to female students around 11 a.m. Police said the defendant, who was visibly intoxicated, said he was looking for a fictitious female student when approached by a teacher.
Teachers and a custodian followed the Tarrytown resident out of the school, and police located him near Reynolds Field. Police said the man had no explanation for being in the building and that he walked through a substantial part of the building after entering through the gym.
He was charged with criminal trespassing in the third degree, a misdemeanor.
Around 4 p.m. staff were concerned that the man had returned, however it was an 18-year-old former student who allegedly was found by staff to be walking around the gym. Staff members found it suspicious, police said. The man—whose last known address was Main Street in Hastings-on-Hudson, but is believed to be homeless and living in Harlem—refused to leave the building when teachers asked him to do so.
He later fled the building and police found him near Reynolds Field. The 18-year-old allegedly told police he was in the school trying to find information on re-enrolling—however, police said this story didn’t check out since he was in the wrong part of the building after school hours. The 18-year-old was arrested for criminal trespassing in the third degree, a misdemeanor near Reynolds Field.
At the time he was in possession of a bicycle that was reported stolen by the mother of a 12-year-old student who left his white Mongoose bicycle, valued at $150, in front of Farragut Middle School.
The 18-year-old was subsequently charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree, a misdemeanor.
