Tarrytown Officer Laid Up with Back Injury after Three-Car Collision

A series of rear-end accidents, injured two, including a Tarrytown police officer, and left three cars damaged on South Broadway the morning of Nov. 2.

Tarrytown police officer Christopher Cole reported at 9:20 a.m. that he had just been rear-ended on South Broadway needed additional units and two ambulances. 

Lt. William Herguth described a chain reaction accident where the first car had stopped in traffic. The police cruiser was behind it. A third car struck the cruiser from behind, pushing the cruiser into the first car.

Tarrytown Volunteer Ambulance Corps and a back up crew were paged and responding. 

Both Irvington and Sleepy Hollow police were notified to help close Route 9 from Prospect to Benedict avenues.

Towing was called for the cars. The first and last car sustained rear or front end damages while the middle car, the police cruiser, was damaged in both the front and rear.

Cole was taken to Phelps Memorial Hospital for a back injury while the third driver was taken to Westchester Medical Center with complaints of abdominal pain. The driver and passenger of the first car both refused medical attention at the scene. 

Officer Cole is now home recovering, Lt. Herguth said.
