Tarrytown PD: Mystery Mercedes, Man in Snow

A summary of incidents in Tarrytown Dec. 27, 2012 through Jan. 3, 2013

The following information was supplied by the Tarrytown Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Bus vs. Car

On Dec. 28 at 6:20 a.m., police received a report of an accident between a Rockland County Tappan Zee Express bus and a Toyota Camry at Central Avenue and Cottage Place. Accident report filed. Lieutenant William Herguth had no further information on the damages or circumstances of the incident.

Benedict Accident

On Dec. 29 at 1:08 p.m., a caller reported a car accident on Benedict Avenue with one car possibly off the road. Officers on the scene requested towing from Stiloski’s for a car that had collided with a tree. Tarrytown Volunteer Ambulance Corps was also dispatched for the driver complaining of a leg injury. Though it was a one-car accident, the driver reported that the incident occurred when they were attempting to avoid another car stopped in the middle of the roadway.

Lying in Snow

On January 1 at 12:32 a.m. a caller reported that there was a young man lying in the snow on Beech Lane. Police reported finding a highly intoxicated man there. TVAC was called to the scene as were the young man’s parents. TVAC transported him to Phelps Memorial Hospital.

Mystery Mercedes

On January 2 at 6:05 a.m., a woman came into headquarters to report that a silver Mercedes had been following her throughout town and even into the parking lot of police headquarters now. Police saw the car leaving the parking lot. The owner was listed in a house with no numbers to contact. The woman claimed she didn’t know the Mercedes' owner and said that he may be mistaking her for someone else since she was driving a rental car. She wished no further action to be taken beyond a blotter entry at this time.

A big part of the problem is that the teachers' expectations about what supplies are necessary haveRead More become so extreme. When my kids were in school in Tarrytown, we would get a list at the beginning of every school year of the supplies we needed to buy. The parents were asked to buy a separate looseleaf binder for every single class our kids were taking and, for some classes, they asked for a looseleaf AND a spiral notebook. When I was in school, each kid had ONE looseleaf and we separated classes with dividers. Having SIX or seven loose leafs adds to backpack weight and costs a lot of money. My kids supply bills were often close to $100 apiece. The teachers have bought into this idea that all of these supplies are necessary and they are not. I'm not surprised that Staples is offering "rewards programs." Their advertising and marketing efforts have convinced the teachers that you must have a package of 12 red correcting pens, per child.
