Tarrytown Police: Baby Deer Hit, Pit Bull with Painted Nails

A summary of recent police activity and arrests in the village of Tarrytown.

Jewelry Theft

DoubleTree Hotel security alerted Tarrytown police on July 19 at 2:15 p.m. that there had been jewelry stolen from a guest's room. Police are investigating.

Painted Nail Pit Bull

A caller on Barnes Road reported to Tarrytown Police finding a brown and white pit bull whose nails were painted. Police left information with Greenburgh animal control on July 20 around 11:30 p.m. The caller told police they would hold onto the dog for now.

Portuguese Club Fight

Metro-North Police reported to Tarrytown PD that there was a fight in progress on Franklin Street near the Portuguese Club on July 21 at 1:46 a.m. Officers on scene reported two men were under arrest for disorderly conduct and the situation was under control. 

However, while placing the men under arrest, one officer reported hurting his back. By 3:31 a.m., both parties were released to a responsibile person with a return court date. 

The two men were from White Plains, reports Lt. William Herguth, and the officer is okay.

Same Baby Deer?

A Croton Avenue caller reported to police on July 22 at 10 a.m. that a baby deer was stuck in her fenced yard. Police at the scene reported that the deer had left the yard and run off. 

Forty-five minutes later, a woman reported that she had struck a baby deer on South Broadway near Franklin Street. Greenburgh Animal Control was contacted to move the deer so that it could be destroyed in a humane manner, police report. 

The deer was killed by authorities and police filed a "use of force" form.

Man Charged with Violating Former DWI Order

Following a traffic stop, a man was arrested by Tarrytown police on the I-87 Southbound ramp. A record check revealed that the man had a suspended driver's license as of January 24, 2013 from failure to answer a summons out of Greenburgh. 

He had revocations for a DWI conviction. This time, he was found in violation of the court's order for him to drive with an Interlock device, which tests your alcohol level before allowing you to drive. 

Not using the device as ordered by a court is a misdemeanor, Lt. William Herguth reports. He then allegedly refused to take a chemical blood alcohol test from police.

Police arrested him and took him into headquarters where he was released on $200 cash bail with a return court date. 

The 33-year-old White Plains man was charged with:
  • No passing zone
  • Aggravated unlicensed operation in the second/refused chemical test
  • Circumvention of Interlock device
  • Operate motor vehicle by unlicensed driver
Chase Money

A Stephen Drive resident reported to Tarrytown police the loss of $3,500 from their Chase checking account.

They reported this at headquarters on July 23 at 10:53 a.m., saying that an unknown person withdrew the money from their bank account in Bellevue, Washington, claiming to be the account holder. 

Police filed a case for identity theft. 

Unlicensed Cab

Officer reports a traffic stop resulted in charged a taxi with village code violations on July 23 at 12:25 p.m. 

Police stopped the car at the Depot Plaza, issuing the driver a ticket for unlicensed taxi driver and unlicensed taxi cab with a return court date. 

Car Fire on Thruway

County Fire Control requested Tarrytown Fire Department and Tarrytown Volunteer Ambulance Corps assist with a car accident with injuries and a car fire on the state thruway. This happened on 5:50 p.m. on July 23.

Man Hits Woman?

Police received a 911 from a Wildey Street reporting a man was hitting a woman. 
Police got the call on July 23 at 7:56 p.m. and went to the scene. There they requested Sleepy Hollow PD assist with a Spanish speaking officer. The situation, they said, was under control.

There had apparently been an argument over the ex-husband being seen at the store with his ex-wife's sister. Police filed a NYS domestic incident report.

Warrant Arrests

A 47-year-old Tarrytown man was arrested on a warrant on July 18 at 9:25 a.m., processed and released with a court date. His original charge was for unlawful possession of marijuana.

A Yonkers man was transported from Rockland County Jail to appear in Tarrytown Village Court where he was arrested on a bench warrant on July 24 at 9:37 a.m. 

The 44-year-old man was originally charged with petty larceny.

Disorderly Man 

Metro-North police requested Tarrytown police assistance with a disorderly man approaching on a northbound train on July 24 at 3:18 p.m. The man may have stolen a purse, they said.

Police at the scene requested an ambulance for a female passenger with a hand injury. The investigation was turned over the MTA police. The woman refused medical attention and police had no further information.

Barnes Road Car Entry

A Barnes Road resident came to headquarters on July 25 at 11:20 a.m. to report that his car had been entered sometime overnight with several items removed. 
Police filed a petty larceny case.
