Tarrytown Police: Upset Man Breaks Bus Window, Gas Odors on Rosehill

DPW Vehicle Hit on Broadway

An officer was flagged down on July 11 by a village employee who said he was hit while parked in front of Bella's restaurant.

At 1:33 p.m., the village employee said his Highway Department vehicle was struck as he was opening the driver side door by a blue Toyota Matrix traveling southbound on South Broadway. The man was unable to get the license plate number.

DPW Foreman Scott Weaver was notified and responded; he wanted the incident noted for the record at this time.

Broken Car Window

Someone called police to report on July 12 at 2:55 p.m. that someone had broken his car window and taken off. Officers found both parties at Route 9 and Hamilton Place.

One car was driving southbound on Route 9 when the passenger apparently yelled obscenities at another car. The other driver then proceeded to break the passenger side rear window of the car in "defense of his wife," the report said.

The parties agreed on $200 restitution for the damage and required no further police action.

Heart Attack at Tarry Hall

After a person suffered a fatal heart attack at the Tarry Hall Care Center on Wood Court, police had to advise the facility several times to contact the medical examiner.

Police received a 911 call on July 12 at 7:20 p.m. for a cardiac arrest with CPR in progress at the nursing home. Officers and the ambulance responded. A paramedic made the death pronouncement at 7:30 p.m.

The nursing supervisor was instructed to contact the medical examiner's office, but after following up with the office, police learned that the staff had not called to provide information for death notification.

Police again called the supervisor and advised her to call the ME. Lt. William Herguth they had not heard back from the medical examiner about any further issues and the death was not deemed suspicious.

Bikes Run off Road

Police received a call from a bicyclist on July 13 at 1:37 p.m. reporting that while he and his friend were riding westbound on White Plains Road, a gray Jaguar sedan with NY plates attempted to hit them, running them off the roadway.

They said the car continued westbound into the village. Police did a plate search for the license number provided and did find a match for that vehicle. The case was noted for the record at this time.

Tappan Zee Bridge Fires, Accident

There was a car on fire mid-span southbound on the bridge on July 14 at 1:46 p.m. Tarrytown Fire Department went and said the scene was cleared by 2:20 p.m.

The fire department was again requested for a car fire on the bridge on July 14 at 9:52 p.m. It was in the southbound lane, mile marker 16.2.

On July 16 at 9:41 a.m. County Control requested our ambulance and fire department for a mid-span rollover in the southbound lane that would require extrication.

More recently, there was a fatal accident on the bridge during a five-car accident on July 23. More on that here.

Homes Cleared on Rosehill Avenue for Gas Leak

Police received a call for an odor of gas on Rosehill Avenue. Con Edison and the Fire Department were dispatched on July 15 at 5:34 p.m. and cleared several homes to test for dangerous levels of gas.

A sergeant on the scene said the fire department had to enter a Altamont Avenue through an unlocked window and into another home on Rosehill for further investigation.

Police said at least these two homes were entered where no one was home, and both were found to be fine. Con Ed also went to other homes, but there were no gas levels recorded.

Rosehill between Altamont and Benedict Avenue would be shut down to allow for work.

Con Edison reported that all houses that were checked were cleared of any possible dangerous gas levels. They left cards at any homes they had to enter where a homeowner wasn't there.

Man Breaks Bus Window

A Bee-Line bus supervisor called Tarrytown police to report that one of their buses had a passenger on it who may have damaged the bus door.

Officers on July 16 at 2:39 p.m. reported finding a witness who said he could identify the person who intentionally broke the window. The man admitted to police that he broke the window.

Lt. William Herguth said the man, from White Plains, was upset because the bus wasn't going where he wanted it to go.
